Bohol Capitol backs Ubay landfill project
MANDAUE CITY, Cebu – The Bohol Provincial Government has expressed its support for the proposed sanitary landfill project in Ubay town.
Governor Erico Aris Aumentado said the project is expected to generate additional revenue for the municipality while providing long-term environmental and economic benefits for Ubay and neighboring communities.

“Ang atong Kagamhanang Probinsyal aktibo nga nagpaluyo sa mga proyekto nga direktang makatabang sa kahimtang sa komunidad pagdumala sa atong mga basura,” the Governor said in a social media post.

However, Aumentado urged town officials during a recent meeting at the Capitol to ensure that nearby residents are included in the public consultation process so their safety and well-being concerns can be properly considered and addressed.

“Sa atong direksyon pagpanalipod sa kalikopan, importante para kanato ang tingog sa katawhan alang sa usa ka malungtarong kalikopan,” he added.

Ubay is a first-class municipality in the province of Bohol.
Sanitary landfill project
In an advisory, the Bohol Provincial Government said Ubay town officials met with Aumentado and officials of the Bohol Provincial Environment Management Office (BPEMO) at the Capitol on July 13 to discuss the municipality’s proposed sanitary landfill project. The project cost has yet to be finalized, as it remains in the early stages of planning, permitting, and public consultation.
The Ubay delegation was led by Vice Mayor Kim Fuentes.
Among the matters discussed was the conduct of public consultations to ensure that nearby residents are fully informed about the project, its environmental safeguards, and its expected benefits.
The Capitol said officials also explored adopting a clustered waste management approach, under which the proposed facility could serve neighboring municipalities, subject to the site’s carrying capacity.

Local officials said the number of local government units (LGUs) that can use the Ubay sanitary landfill will depend on its available area and operational capacity.
Atty. Jeffrey Escaso of the Bohol Provincial Environment Management Office (BPEMO) said the project also has the backing of the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA), which has already given its approval for the project’s development.
Meanwhile, Aumentado urged the Ubay Sangguniang Bayan to pass the necessary resolution and facilitate the issuance of a Special Land Use Permit (SLUP) to designate the proposed landfill site as an industrial zone.
