MINGLANILLA and Dalaguete posted contrasting victories to stay unbeaten in the quarterfinal round of the 2017 Cebu Governor’s Cup Under-21 Inter-Cities/Municipalities Basketball Tournament at the Dalaguete Municipal Gym in southern Cebu.

Both improving to 2-0 (win-loss), Minglanilla bucked a slow start to nail a 75-74 come-from-behind win over the Toledo City Energy, 75-74, while Dalaguete had less trouble disposing of Barili, 80-65.

Talisay City, on the other hand, chalked up its first win in the quarterfinals by trashing Samboan, 85-62.

With Charles Bubuli unloading eight of his 24 points in the opening period, Toledo got off to a start and led, 19-8.

Jiesel Tarrosa, brothers Marc Glenn and Mark Justine Nebril keyed Minglanilla’s uprising as the trio teamed up in a 26-13 run to help their team take a 34-32 halftime lead.

Tommy Bubuli suddenly caught fire in the third where he fired 15 of his game-high 29 points as Toledo regained the lead, 61-55, with only one quarter left to play.

Toledo’s lead ballooned to as many as 11 points, 72-61, but suddenly sputtered and allowed Minglanilla to steal the victory.

Tarrosa topped Minglanilla with 26 points, Marc Glen chipped in 14, while Jan Joshen Mangaron added 12, including a crucial block on Tommy in the dying seconds that iced his team’s win.

Charles, Tommy’s cousin, pitched in 24 for Toledo.
