TWO of the top runners of the Sisters of Mary School (SMS)-Boystown in Minglanilla town, southern Cebu will be strutting their wares in today’s Baybay Bubble Run in Baybay City, Southern Leyte.
The footrace will test the mettle of Richard G. Orosco and Jovanie C. Quijano, who will see action in the 16-kilometer and 8k categories, respectively.
The two 18-year-old runners are products of the grassroots running program of the JPD Coaching of John Philip Dueñas and Cebuana Olympian Mary Joy Tabal.
The stint of Orosco and Quijano in the Baybay footrace is backed by Van Halen Parmis and SMS-Boystown local superior Sister Emelan Lee.
“After going through rigorous training, we want them to finally experience how it feels like to compete. I think this is a perfect time for them to showcase the things they learned in our clinics,” said Parmis, who has been spearheading the sports community outreach programs at Boystown.
Aside from running, football and basketball clinics are also being regularly held at Boystown.
The race will start at 3 p.m.
Champion in the 16k race will get P5,000 while the second and third placers will bring home P3,000 and P2,000, respectively. The top three finishers in the 8k race will pocket P3,000, P2,000 and P1,500, respectively.
The event will also feature a 3k race with the top three winners receiving P2,000, P1,500 and P1,000, respectively.
Special awards such as youngest and oldest runners, best in costume, biggest delegation and “running family” will be given away.
