Sagbaf-Aquapure stun top seed Lycans in Indie hoopfest

THE EIGHT-SEEDED Sagbaf-Aquapure pulled off the upset of the season so far as it eliminated the top-ranked Lycans from the playoffs with a 95-88 win in the 7th Indie Basketball Cebu last Sunday at the Cebu City Sports Institute.

Versatile forward RJ Acha laid waste to the Lycans defense as he ripped it apart to the tune of 25 points, four rebounds and four steals to lift Sagbaf-Aquapure to the semifinal round.

However, it wasn’t the only upset of the quarterfinals as the sixth-seeded MSBC ousted the third-ranked San Remegio Properties, 93-86, thanks to the stellar performance of incoming University of San Jose-Recoletos guard Kido Cabrera, who tallied 25 markers.

Also advancing to the Final Four were ASPA Formworks and SG Arq Builders.

ASPA got 18 points from sniper Romar Ponce to help his team snatch a 97-90 win over Jhannics.

Allan Sala meanwhile, piled up 22 points, five boards, three assists and five steals to push SG Arq past the RNK Builders, 101-83.
