CEBUANO tennis prodigy Arthur Craig Pantino advanced to the quarterfinal round of the PTT-International Tennis Federation (ITF) Championship after surviving a sloppy opening set in beating India’s Theerta Macherla, 7-6 (2), 6-1 on Thursday in Thailand.
The 16-year-old Pantino, who holds a respectable 7-5 (win-loss) card in all ITF competitions this year, was also tested in his second round match where he lost the opening set. But he regained his bearing in time to beat Muhammad Dhaifullah, 2-6, 7-6 (1), 6-2 triumph.
With his victory against Macherla, Pantino is set to battle Sacchit Sharrma of India in the quarters today.
Also joining Pantino in Last 8 is compatriot John Otico who will take on Lingxiang Huang in the quarterfinals.
Otico advanced to the quarterfinals round after beating Natthayut Nithithanont of Thailand, 6-1, 7-2 and Keisuke Saitoh of Japan, 6-2, 6-2.
