USC fires volleyball coaches

THE University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors hope to finally change their fortunes by appointing new head coaches for their girls, men’s and women’s volleyball teams for the upcoming Cebu Schools Athletics Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) season.

USC, which has been reorganizing their athletic programs in elementary, high school and collegiate levels this year, earlier let go of girls’ mentor Vannesa Juezan before deciding not to renew the contracts of eight-year men’s tactician Norvie Labuga and women’s coach Jessie Yungco.

Replacing Juezan in the girls’ team is Dominic Macuto while Rowel Lato and Dennis Sepulveda will take over the men’s and women’s teams, respectively.

Newly-chosen men’s mentor Lato hopes to improve the team’s chemistry after losing John Kenneth Sarcena who decided not to play his final year as well as James Dalton Montante and Jeffrey Alicando who transferred to Southwestern University and Adamson University during the offseason.

“I’m looking forward to (strengthening) our teamwork since some of my strong players transferred to another school,” Lato said.

Meanwhile, the boys’ team, the back-to-back bridesmaids in the last two seasons will still be handled by Jonrey Sasing.
