2002 Lions keep semis bid alive

USC North Alumni Basketball Conference

THE 2002 Lions forced a do-or-die game for a ticket to the semifinals in Division 3 after they blew away the 2007 Waybus, 79-49, in the quarterfinals of the University of San Carlos North Alumni Basketball Conference Summer League 2 Powered by Common Ground last weekend at the USC North Campus gym.

Former two-time Cesafi MVP Enrico Llanto threw his weight around as he nearly had a rare triple-double with 29 points, 11 rebounds, nine assists on top of four steals and two blocked shots.

The 6-foot-1 forward got plenty of help from Jose Ruiz, Joel Dinawanao and Rocky Alcoseba to forge a winner-take-all match this weekend.

Batch 2002 was the only team to extend their quarterfinal affair as the rest of the higher seeds booked slots to the best-of-three semis.

In Division 1, the 1988 Barako outlasted the 1982 Dominique Classics, 52-49.

The 1985 Legends also gave the 1986 Waveriders the boot with a 64-41 rout.

In Division 2, the 2001 Lite Shipping thwarted the 2000 Millennium Bugs, 64-61. The 1997 Ronins slipped past the 1996 Chubbies, 59-55.
