CCSC chief says pitch is better than before

CEBU City Sports Center (CCSC) general manager Ricky Ballesteros aired his side regarding the complaints of Ceres Negros FC about the poor condition of the CCSC football field.

It can be recalled that the visiting Ceres Negros FC, which lost to Global Cebu in their Philippine Football League (PFL) match Wednesday night, complained about the state of the pitch, saying it wasn’t safe.

Ballesteros said the field may not have been in its best state but it was definitely fit for play.

“The condition of the pitch is better now compared two months ago. As a true player, you should be ready to play on whatever kind of field, as long as there are no boulders in the field,” Ballesteros said.

The PFL match commissioner actually cleaned the field a day before the match between Ceres and Global.

Ballesteros also lauded the Cebu Football Association for rehabilitating the pitch despite short notice.

He said what the CFA did was not easy as it only had less than two months to rehabilitate the pitch.

“[Rehabilitation] was done only less than two months and it was during summer, where most of the fields are affected by the heat. And CCSC’s field is not exclusive for football. There are practices daily every morning and afternoon for Abellana National School’s softball and baseball teams at the opposite ends,” Ballesteros elaborated.

Ballesteros, meanwhile, assured that the pitch will continue to be conditioned in preparation for Global Cebu’s other coming home games at the CCSC.

Global Cebu has 11 more home games scheduled at the CCSC starting this Sunday when it faces the Laguna Stallions FC starting at 7 p.m.

Tickets are priced at P20, P100 and P200 and are available at the CFA office inside the CCSC.
