Police: Witnesses point to driver as slay suspect

ONE week after the bloodied remains of call center agent Aireen Adolfo was found in a grassy area of a subdivision in Barangay Pulangbato, the police centered on one of two men as their primary suspect in the case.

SPO1 Winston Ybanes of the Cebu City Police Office’s Homicide Section, said only habal-habal (motorcycle-for-hire) driver Sherwin Velasquez remains their most likely suspect in Adolfo’s murder.

The other suspect, 38-year-old Ramonito Tribunalo, remains in police custody after he was found at home with bullets from a .38 revolver in the area.
Both Velasquez and Tribunalo are distant relatives to Adolfo.

Ybanes said witnesses were reluctant to execute an affidavit for fear of reprisal from either Velasquez, who was jailed for illegal drug possession and had just been released last January, or Tribunalo, who faced robbery cases.

“Though naay nakakita nga misakay ‘tong biktima sa iyaha [Velasquez], pero walay nakakita sa pagpatay gyud sa iyaha (Though there were some who saw the victim ride with Velasquez, no one saw him kill her),” Ybanes said.

Ybanes said it was unfortunate that the security camera footage in the subdivision where the crime supposedly happened was unclear to determine the suspect’s identity.

But he said the police will team up with the regional National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to solve Adolfo’s murder.
