Rafols, Alcoseba bag bronze medals

FOR CEBUANO jumper John Marvin Rafols, there’s no greater feeling than winning a competition while representing your own country.

The 18-year-old Grade 12 student athlete of the University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters just did that after winning a bronze medal in the boys long jump competition of the 9th Asean School Games last Saturday in Singapore.

In his first competition abroad, Rafols logged a distance of 6.58 meters to place third behind Thailand’s Chatchanan Churod (6.68m) and fellow Filipino Karl Arvyn Aquino, who won the gold (7.5m)

“It feels really great considering that I am a first-timer in this international competition,” Rafols told Cebu Daily News. “I hope that I can do better in my next competition.”

Rafols has a chance to win another medal, as he competes in the boys triple jump today.

Fellow Cebuano, Raven Faith Alcoseba also won a bronze medal in the 200m breaststroke event in swimming by clocking two minutes and 26.41 seconds .

Both Cebuanos are part of a 224-strong Philippine delegation in the international multi-sporting meet that will last until July 31.
