USJ-R’s Peromingan says team is motivated after not being considered a threat this season

The University of San Jose-Recoletos Jaguars are bent on turning a slight into motivation with the 17th season of the Cesafi basketball season set to tip off this Saturday at the New Cebu Coliseum.

According to third-year wingman Tricky Peromingan, the Jaguars are even more motivated than ever before after hearing whispers that they aren’t considered to be a legitimate threat to the title this season.

“We are just silently preparing for this season. We have a lot of new guys that can really help the team. Expect that we would be stronger and tougher compared to last season,” said the Bukidnon-native, who was recruited to join the Jaguars from the Far Eastern University Baby Tamaraws.

“All of us are more motivated because we heard that we are not considered as one of the four best teams in this season. So just watch out!” forewarned the high-leaping two-guard.

Peromingan said consistency would be key in order for him to help out Jaguars side that once again, would be leaning on their Mythical Five duo of RJ Dinolan and Jaybie Mantilla along with senior big man Nelvin Navarra and the slam-dunking Miguel Gastador.

“Expect that I will be consistent. Unlike last season wherein I started to contribute after six games,” bared Peromingan.

Peromingan also shared that it has occurred to him that he already is playing in his third season in the Cesafi, leaving him with no more excuses not to play well.

“I realized a lot of things during our off season games. I realized that I am now in my third year of playing for USJ-R and this time there’s no excuse left for inconsistency and inefficiency,” he said. “This season, I wouldn’t say that the team lacks talent or training. Instead, I am taking the initiative to improve myself, master my craft, and be consistent about it. I want to step up my game not just for my career but moreover, to help the team.”

USJ-R opens its season on Aug. 8 with a match against the Cebu Institute of Technology-University Wildcats.
