THE SG-ARQ Builders handed the Team Samsam Gullas their first loss of the tournament as they bested the two-time defending champions a 109-101 loss in the Emil’s Fresh Chicken Cup Invitational on Sunday night at the Minglanilla Sports Complex.
The Builders’ cadre of grizzled veterans led their assault as Ferdinand Lusdoc and former pro Jercules Tangkay scored 31 and 21 points, respectively, to help give them their second win in as many matches.
Former University of the Visayas top guns Eman Calo and John Abad also came back to haunt their former squad as they pitched in a combined 29 markers.
Jay Collado scored 24 while Dennis Daa made 18, but it was not enough to keep the team of youthful solon Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas from falling to 1-1.
In other games, Fighter Wine also got their second straight win while San Remigio Properties bounced back after a sorry opening day loss.
Fighter Wine downed ASPA Formworks, 100-82, as former Adamson Falcons guard waxed hot and dropped in 33 points.
Experienced cagers Danny Aying, Jayford Rodriguez and Gerry Cavan also scored in double figures for the 2-0 Fighter Wine.
San Remigio, meanwhile, got a huge boost from current University of the Philippines Maroon star Paul Desiderio, who scored 21 to lift them to a 100-84 win over Riss/Eagles Express.
