A side event to this Sunday’s Cobra IronMan 70.3 Philippines will unfold Saturday at the Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort and Spa.
Four hundred young triathletes will test their mettle as the Alaska IronKids triathlon gets underway a day before the IronMan race.
IronKids race director Annie De Leon Brown told Cebu Daily News (CDN) that they have limited the number of entries to 400 to ensure a safe and well organized race.
“IronKids is always fun and really worth organizing because you can see the kids cross the finish line smiling while trying to live up to the challenge,” De Leon said.
“From 60 in our first year in Camarines Sur in 2009 we now have 400 kids competing every year.”
Favored to rule the premier 13-14 year-old category are defending champions Tara Borlain and Juan Francisco Baniqued.
Borlain is expected to face stiff challenge from Cebuana Karen Andrea Manayon and Everly Macalalad while expected to crowd Baniqued for top honors are Bernard Sarmiento and Jose Manuel Arao. The race also features younger categories.

Television host and weather man Kim Atienza who will compete on Sunday’s Cobra Ironman 70.3 Philippines, said that the weather today will be cloudy in the morning which is very ideal for a triathlon race.
