SHE SHOULD be beautiful inside and out, speak the Cebuano language and must possess knowledge not just about the town she represents but the whole Cebu province as well. These are the qualities needed to be the first Binibining Cebu.
Fifty four Cebuanas were introduced as the official candidates for the first Binibining Cebu during a press conference and launching at SM Seaside City Cebu yesterday.
The event was presented by Bb. Sugbu Charity Foundation Inc., in cooperation with Sacred Heart School for Boys Batch 1985 Foundation, Inc.
Kenneth Lim, president of Bb. Sugbu Charity Foundation Inc., and Sacred Heart School for Boys Batch 1985 Foundation, Inc., said the pageant aims to promote tourism and culture in Cebu.
“The objective is for everybody to have a glimpse of little known facts of places and products of Cebu through our candidates. We will have projects and events that will bring candidates in the province,” Lim said in a press conference.
Binibining Cebu was born after a conversation with their batchmates together with fashion designer Cary Santiago who is also now the pageant chairperson.
The Binibining Cebu was also created after Miss Cebu was canceled this year by the Cebu City government.
How were the candidates chosen? Santiago said that some were endorsed by the municipalities and some went through auditions and interviews.
“I personally called the mayors and gave deadlines including tourism officers,” Santiago said.
As the pageant kicked off yesterday, there will be a series of activities before the grand coronation night which is scheduled on October 28, 2017 at Waterfront Hotel and Casino Cebu City.
The grand coronation night will be hosted by the father and son tandem of Edu and Lucky Manzano.
Hablon creations by Dexter Alazas will be presented during the Philippine Terno Competition at Cabicera in the town of Argao on September 23.
The swimsuit competition featuring Solti Activewear is set on September 29 at Grand Convention Center of Cebu while Evening gown competition will be on October 4 at the Centerstage of SM Seaside City Cebu.
The pre-pageant interview will be on October 25 at the Oakridge Pavilion.
PRIZES The grand winner of Binibining Cebu 2017 will receive P500,000 cash and P300,000 in kind.
Her municipality will also receive P200,000.
Santiago said that the crown is made of pure gold, diamonds, rubies and sapphires.
It was designed by Santiago under the supervision of world renowned furniture designer Kenneth Cobonpue and produced by Oro China Jewelry.
The first runner-up will win P300,000 cash and P100,000 in kind while her municipality will receive P150,000.
The second runner-up will receive P200,000 cash and P50,000 in kind while her municipality will get P100,000.
The third runner-up will receive P100,000 while her municipality will get P75,000 and the fourth runner-up will receive P75,000 while her municipality will get P50,000.
