UC Junior Webmasters looking to stay unbeaten after eliminations

THE University of Cebu (UC) Junior Webmasters will go for the jugular against the Cebu Doctors’ University (CDU) as they look to finish the elimination round unbeaten in the F2 Logistics Cesafi boys volleyball tournament at 10 a.m. today at the University of San Carlos (USC) Main gym.

UC barged into the semifinals last Sunday after beating Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) for a clean 3-0 (win-loss) slate and the top spot in Pool A. DBTC, Cebu Institute of Technology – University (CIT-U) and the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) all sport 1-1 cards.
Sitting at the bottom is CDU, which has been eliminated from playoff contention after dropping its first three assignments.

Although they are facing an opponent not expected to give them a hard time in CDU, Junior Webmasters coach Alan Flores believes that the team still needs to bring its A-game today so as not to complicate things.

“I just want them to focus and enjoy the game,” Flores said.

When asked if they can win the crown this year, Flores said, “It depends because some of the teams are really strong too.”

Also in Pool A, USPF and CIT-U lock horns at 8 a.m. today hoping to bolster their semifinal chances.

Earlier last week, the Southwestern University (SWU) – Phinma and USC also made the semis cut after finishing in the top two in Pool B.

The best two teams in each pool after the single-round robin eliminations will advance to the single-round robin semifinals with the top two fighting for the title.

In the girls division, the University of San Jose-Recoletos hopes to extend its three-game win streak against UC while the reigning champion Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu battles SWU-Phinma at 3 p.m.

Also in girls play, USPF battles the Cebu Eastern College while CDU guns for its first win against USC.
