USPF men’s volley team in trouble

Cesafi 2017

WHILE the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) is enjoying success with its secondary and women’s teams, which made it to the semifinals in the F2 Logistics Cesafi volleyball tournament, the same can’t be said with its men’s squad.

The Spiking Panthers, who won their opening game against the University of San Carlos (USC), finds themselves in the brink of possibly missing the playoffs after losing two straight games against Southwestern University (SWU) – Phinma and the University of the Visayas (UV), respectively.

USPF dropped to the fifth place in the standings with a 1-2 (win-loss) card.

USPF actually had a chance of pulling off victories in those past two losses but just fell short.

It was evident that the glaring discrepancy to those losses was the team’s lack of end-game poise. This is what head coach Cecil Jotojot will try to address this week as they enter the crucial stages of the tournament.

“We need to improve our receiving and the set plays and most importantly our teamwork,” said Jotojot, who is hoping that those adversities would motivate the team to get back on the winning track.

USPF returns to action this Sunday as it takes on the hungry University of Cebu (UC), which has yet to win after two games.
