AND it’s a boy.

At their baby’s gender reveal party last Sunday, celebrity couple Paul Jake Castillo and Kaye Abad-Castillo said they feel exceedingly blessed to have a son by end of December or early January.

In an intimate gathering of family and friends at the Grillers Steak House, the couple—who got married here December last year—shared to Cebu Daily News their excitement as well as the struggle they went through to have a baby.

“Last year, we were already decided that we should have a baby right away. I was on triathlon and people say that if you go biking longer than the regular biking, baka bumaba ‘yung sperm count. I don’t want na ako ang reason ba for it not to go through so I didn’t bike for a while. We kept on trying pero wala man gyud and I told her na kapoy na og huwat. So, mao to nibalik ko og bike. I went back to training. It was final that if she won’t get pregnant, diretso mi og Singapore for IVF (in vitro fertilization). I was impatient and good thing nabuntis siya,” Paul Jake said.

It took a while before Kaye was able confirm her pregnancy. “I had vertigo before I knew I was pregnant. I never had vertigo before. As in one morning I just had blurred vision. I got confined and the doctors were thinking na baka I am pregnant kasi may mga cases na ganun. I had blood test to make sure na kung pregnant ka they would know what medicines to give. Negative naman ‘yung bloodtest so I guess it was still early to tell then. I was discharged after two weeks, ‘eh delayed ako when regular talaga ako,” she said.

The actress said she took it upon herself to know if indeed she was already with child.

“Nagtaka na ako ‘eh. Sabi nu’ng mga sisters niya baka dahil sa gamot that I took when I was still in the hospital, baka lang na-delay because sometimes nag-iiba daw ‘yung cycle … Natakot ako dahil baka ‘yun nga. Pero iba ‘yung feeling ko dahil magkakaroon naman ng sign like may cravings, so walang symptoms at all. So, four days na akong delayed bumili na ako ng PT (pregnancy test) kit, hindi ko muna sinabi sa kanya kasi ayoko na ma excite siya na baka buntis pero wala naman. Tinago ko, nag test ako, twice nag positive siya.”

Beaming with the flush of motherhood, Kaye said she was just happy that Paul has always been there for her.

“Andun siya sa room pero nasa CR ako. Tinago ko talaga. So, tinawag ko siya and first reaction niya nag yes siya, tapos biglang nasabi na lang niya about those medicines I took in the hospital. Nag worry kami kasi malakas ‘yung mga gamut. Nagpa-check ako sa OB the next day at sinabi naman nila that basing on the time table when I took the meds it was okay dahil what I had was category B type na medicines, ‘yung A ‘yung pinaka delikado,” Kaye said.

She also shared about her food cravings and the need to cut back back on her sugar intake.

“I crave sweets, like ice cream and cakes. Before I didn’t drink softdrinks pero nung nagbuntis na ako, grabe akong mag crave ng softdrinks. Nung chineck ‘yung glucose ko it was mataas. I was diabetic. So tanggal lahat ng sweets, as in literal. Lahat! Pati bread. Kailangan wheat bread or brown rice, no sugar talaga and it’s okay. Tiis lang anyway three months na lang kesa madamay ‘yung baby. Kailangan kakayanin at buti na lang nakahanap kami ng Keto cupcakes,” she said.

LIFE IN CEBU

Away from her showbiz life, family and friends, Kaye is gracefully adjusting to her new life here in Cebu.

“Mahirap pero kasama na siya dun sa new chapter of my life. I’ve always wanted to have my own family and so kung ganito man ang kapalit, bakit hindi? And malapit lang naman ang Manila. ‘Yun lang naman ang palaging sinasabi ko sa parents ko din na unlike the others na who are living abroad, isipin na lang natin na malapit lang ang Cebu,” she said.

The actress said that Paul Jake is very hands-on as a partner, supporting and giving the best for her here in Cebu.

“I have Grillers Steak House for her. And here sa restaurant, it’s just me and my business partner as we also have a bike shop. The initial plan was for her na may gagawin siya so we decided to  come up with a salad stop. But when she got pregnant, she can’t do anything. Good thing a friend from Manila can supply to us good steak, mao na nahimo siyang steak house,” Paul Jake said.

Avoiding the daily stress of running the business while in her delicate condition, Kaye however  makes sure that she does her part in getting involved in the family business.

“Mabilis kasi ako ma-stress. I try to come every night para mag hello sa mga guests because sometimes may mga nagme-message sa akin kung kailan ko daw sila pwede makita and I would reply that I would drop by. They want to have their picture taken with me so ‘yun na yung contribution ko sa business. So, para akong mascot ng Grillers,” Kaye said, with a laugh.

Learning to speak and understand the Cebuano language was  also something she had to do. “At first nahirapan kasi silang mag-Tagalog, lalo na ‘yung parents niya. So mag i-English kami sa bahay. Talagang makikita mo ‘yung struggle lalo na sa Daddy niya na may gustong sabihin pero di talaga niya masabi. Hanggang natuto ako with Paul’s friends kasi nagkukwentuhan sila and with everyday na naririnig ko na words. And minsan nagmo-mall ako, binibisaya ako so kailangan ko talagang matuto,” she said.

MOVING FORWARD

The couple is bent on raising a family right away thus the decision of momentarily setting aside future showbiz engagements for Kaye, at least for a couple of years.

“It’s a good three more years siguro. Hindi muna, kasi plano is masundan agad. Plano is bago ako mag 40, okey na lahat ‘eh may five years na lang ako to go, so kailangan niyang isingit kaagad,” Kaye said.

The soon-to-be parents agree that as much as possible, they don’t want their child to join showbiz.

“Because I guess we know kung gaano kahirap. Siguro sa commercial pwede. Kasi mabilis lang gawin ang commercial and you can demand as to the time from start to end,” Kaye said.

Paul Jake countered: “Kahit na commercial. Ayoko kasi mahimo na niya ning hambugiro bataa. Feeling sikat na unya.” “Baby pa naman,” Kaye reasoned.

“Delikado modako niya ang ulo. Maayo lang unta og pareho nato ba,” said Paul Jake.

“She can save up like sila KC Concepcion. Naipon nila ‘yung pera so nung nagka-edad na ang bata mayroon na siyang savings,” Kaye retorted. “Ay, akin na lang pera niya!” Paul Jake declared, in jest.

Earlier, we asked if they had already thought of baby names, regardless of the child’s gender.  “Kung girl, Kathalina kasi Katherine ako. Or Skye, a name that was suggested by our niece. And if boy, gusto ko Chase,” Kaye said.
