The Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 has relaunched on Thursday the Lakbay-Ligtas project in partnership with Petron gas station in Barangay Pajo, Lapu-Lapu City.
The project will put up a total of 82 collapsible police outposts in select Petron gas stations in the whole Central Visayas, including two in Negros Oriental and two in Bohol.
Chief Supt. Jose Mario Espino, PRO-7 director, said in a speech that the initiative entered into by PNP and Petron will help curb criminality.
“It serves as an extension of our police stations where people can easily access in case they need police assistance,” said Espino.
The collapsible police outposts that will be provided by Petron are equipped with electricity, police blinkers and even refreshments for the assigned police officers.
Rommel Remulla, assistant vice president of Reseller Trade (Petron Corp.), said the project is part of their corporate social responsibility to give back to the community.
“We came into the idea of helping the police maintain peace and order that will surely benefit the community,” he said.
As of last year’s launching, Petron has installed 300 collapsible police outsposts nationwide, including 42 in Central Visayas.
Bernard Restificar, owner of Petron Gas Station franchise in Lapu-Lapu City, said he was very honored to have these police outposts that will serve as deterrent to crimes.
He said Petron is targeting to install about a thousand collapsible police outposts nationwide.
Lapu-Lapu City Police Director Rommel Cabagnot said he will deploy police officers to the outpost on shifting schedule for 24 hours.
The relaunching activity was also attended by Mandaue City Police Chief Roberto Alanas and police directors of the cities of Cebu, Talisay and Danao, and Cebu province.
