BURNING THE US FLAG
A lot of netizens, both Filipino and foreign, were angry and aghast over the burning of the US flag by leftist militant groups who held a rally in front of the dilapidated Cebu International Convention Center (CICC) protesting the visit of US President Donald Trump to the country for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) summit.
Graeme Morrissey wrote, “To burn the American flag is a terrible thing for any Philippine citizen to do. Your country has a lot to thank the Americans for. You don’t have to like Trump but to burn that flag is ridiculous.”
Another netizen, Alan Schmidt, said, “How would Filipino feel If I burn the Philippine Flag???? I’m sure many would be upset. That’s how I feel seeing the USA flag being burned.”
A netizen named Lito Cerna wrote, “These are lowest class of Filipinos who earn their living doing rallies! They are paid to disrupt traffic and cause tension! They burn effigies & flags and shout like parrots because they don’t know why they’re in those rallies! When there’s no rally, they go hungry because they’re just too lazy to work! That’s why they love rallies! Ignore them.”
