KALSI put an end to the unbeaten run of Unitec Pipes with an 86-61 rout in the Cebu Architects Basketball Club Corporate Cup 2017 last Sunday at the Benedicto College Gym along A.S. Fortuna Street.

Carlos Baltar and Allen Dinola took full advantage of the undermanned Unitec squad as the former had 27 points, nine rebounds, four assists and two steals while the latter pumped in 24 markers, nine boards, six dimes and two swipes.

The win gave Kalsi a 3-2 win-loss card at the end of the elimination round, and into a tie with Island Paints. But Island Paints snatched the second seed and the automatic spot in the semifinals by virtue of their win over Kalsi in their lone match-up this season. Kalsi settled for the third seed.

In spite of the loss, Unitec emerged as the top-ranked team with a 4-1 card.

In other games, Boysen Paints demolished Island Paints, 105-78, as four different players scored in double-figures. Josef Padilla had 16, Darren Morandante tallied 15, Chester Hinagdanan had 13 while Paul Sasan scored 10 to help Boysen finish the round at 2-3.

Davies Paints on the other hand, beat Phelps Dodge, 84-72, thanks to Ayi Armenion’s 23-point effort. Davies and Boysen were tied at 2-3 but the former grabbed the fourth via the winner-over-the-other rule.
