Additional personnel will be detailed at the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) to ensure security within the premises for the Dec. 25 and 26 visits of families of inmates.

Provincial Human Resources and Management Office chief Bobby Nacorda said 39 workers will be assigned to secure CPDRC on Christmas Day and the day after.

About 15 of them were hired last week, Nacorda said. The remaining 24 workers are still finishing their requirements before they are hired.

Nacorda said he also suggested to the CPDRC administration that they should not permit their staff members to take a leave on the scheduled dates as much as possible.

“We will have to discuss that with CPDRC deputy warden Audesti Miguel, but that’s our suggestion for now. In the meantime, we will be deploying the 15 hired personnel probably next week,” he said.

Nacorda said they are open for more volunteers from the provincial government.

There are at least 150 workers, including jail guards, assigned at CPDRC.

Last Monday, CPDRC deputy warden Miguel said their office agreed to allow each of the nearly 3,800 inmates in CPDRC at Barangay Kalunasan, Cebu City, to entertain at most three visitors this Christmas.

But the families were prohibited from bringing gifts to deter the entry of contraband into the provincial jail.

Cebu Gov. Hilario Davide III said he will request the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) to augment security at the CPDRC this Christmas.
