THE vaunted runners of the University of San Carlos backed by Spectrum Runners Club will be pitting a strong lineup in the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC)-Sinulog Fun Run slated tomorrow starting at the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC).
USC will field in 13 runners in the footrace that is part of PSC’s Visayas Open headed by multi-titled runner Mary Joy Loberanis.
The other USC runners competing are the Garcia siblings Lourence Yvory, Louance Yveine and Lourance Yvonne, Lovely Grace Peña, Rafael Troy Lugay, EJ Pakanna, Ryan Keith Mendez, Melody Perez, Geneciel Saballa, Geneda Arcuiño, Ruel Algufera and Arnel Florentino.
They will be spread among the different age groups and distances of the race. The running will have 12-under, 16-under and 22-under age groups and 3k, 5k and 10k distances.
The Sisters of Mary School (SMS) Boys Town of Minglanilla town, south Cebu will be fielding in 600 runners.
According to PSC secretariat official Audie Marte, around a thousand runners have already signed up for the race.
The top 10 runners, both male and female, in the three distances will qualify for the final leg of PSC Visayas Open running event on August 11 in Iloilo City. They will compete against winners from other PSC Visayas Open running events in Negros and Panay.
Aside from qualifying for the final leg in August, the winning runners of the PSC Sinulog Fun Run will undergo a 12-weekend training session with renowned running coach John Philip Dueñas, the trainer of Cebuana Olympian and Southeast Asian Games gold medalist Mary Joy Tabal.
