Big Yellow Boxing Gym’s stalwart Carlo Demecillo clinched the Philippines Visayas Professional Boxing Association (Visproba) bantamweight title by scoring a sixth-round knockout against Margarito Moya in the main event of “Bakbakan sa Catmon II” last Wednesday evening at the Catmon Sports Complex, Catmon town, north Cebu.
Carlo, 21, the youngest of the three Demecillo fighting brothers of Cebu, extended his winning streak to four after his knockout victory in the fight card promoted by Big Yellow Boxing Promotions team manager Seth Oliver Tio.
Demecillo banked on a well-timed right uppercut to Moya’s midsection to send the latter down for good.
According to Demecillo’s trainer Christopher “Pingping” Tepora, the win was a product of a perfectly executed game plan.
With the win, they are planning to hold another fight card in April that will pit other boxers of Big Yellow Boxing Gym.
“We are planning to take a one-week rest and return to training after because we have a lot of plans for them [the boxers] this year,” said Tepora.
The win improved Demecillo’s record to 10-4-0 (win-loss-draw) with four wins completed via knockouts. Moya suffered his fifth loss against nine wins.
Other Big Yellow Boxing Gym pugs also won their respective matches.
Allan Villanueva (8-0-0, 6KOs) remained unbeaten after he escaped Jason Tinampay (8-8-1, 7KOs) by split decision while Audie Dacua (2-0-0, 1KOs) beat Rolien Getalada (0-5-1). Raymond Yanong (9-3-1, 3KOs) knocked out Eddie Estibat (3-6-0, 3KOs); Rhonvex Capuloy (1-0-0, 1KO) scored a third-round technical knockout (TKO) against Johnrey Espinosa (0-2-0); while Eric Pulgo (3-0-1, 2KOs) beat Marjun Bato (0-1-0) via first-round knockout.
