First leg of RunRio Trilogy Cebu kicks off today

A total of 700 runners, mostly experienced and elite, will answer the starting gun in the first of three legs of the Run Rio Trilogy Cebu that will fire off today at the Cebu Business Park.

The running event organized by renowned running coach and running event organizer Rio Dela Cruz will feature different distances each leg. The first leg will have three distances — 5-kilometer, 10k and 21k.

The succeeding legs have longer distances which make this running event unique from other races. The next leg on May 6 will feature a 32k tagged as the “Afroman Distance” among the shorter distances while the finale on August 19 will have a full marathon or the 42k plus the shorter distances.

Run Rio is considered one of the top running organizing teams in the country. It is the organizing team behind the National Milo Marathon. It once partnered with the Cebu Executive Runners Club in staging the annual Cebu Marathon.

The winners in each distance will receive cash prizes while all of the 21k finishers will receive a finisher’s medal specially designed to interconnect with the finishers’ medals in the two upcoming legs.

Gun start is at 4 a.m. for the 21k with the shorter distances to follow minutes later.
