PHOENIX bounced back in a huge way and took down the mighty Tigers, 88-87, in the Tanduay Athletics x Metro Cebu Basketball League – Cebu Weekend Ballers Club last weekend at the City Sports Club-Cebu basketball court.
Former two-time Cesafi MVP Enrico Llanto and Daryle Tan carried the fight for the Phoenix, scoring 24 points apiece with the latter adding 10 boards.
Former Southwestern University (SWU)-Phinma guard Jabby Bautista quarterbacked the squad with aplomb and racked up six assists while Biboy Potencioso held his own on the defensive end of the floor with four steals and a block.
The loss spoiled the 35-point performance of yet another former SWU-Phinma standout Janjan Auditor, who was playing for the Tigers.
In other games, the Bulls ripped the Pandas apart, 92-70, behind the offensive brilliance of Lino Martel, who had 34 points, five boards and four steals.
The Bulldogs also edged the Raptors, 81-79, behind the solid all-around effort of Justin Huang, who racked up 26 points, 12 rebounds, three assists and five steals.
The Lions also beat the Hornets, 73-64, as Marvin Agruda piled on 20 points and nine boards while Ivan Mendoza led the Scorpions past the Wolves, 61-51, with 13 points, six boards and four helpers.
