Cebu’s finest junior golfers are chomping at the bit for the chance to win it all as they compete in the Philippine Junior Amateur Golf Championship that starts today at the Sherwood Hills Golf Club in Trece Martires City, Cavite.
Cebuana Junia Gabasa, the younger sister of one of Cebu’s best women golfers, Irina, is competing in the tournament along with Weifang Gao.
They would be up against some tough opposition with top bet Harmie Constantino looking to bag a second straight title, after recently winning the W Express RVF Cup in Canlubang last February.
The 72-hole championship is being backed by MVP Sports Foundation and held as part of the PLDT Group National Amateur Golf Tour.
On the boys’ side, Weiyu Gao is all set to mix it up with the likes of Paolo Wong, Luis Castro, Carl Corpus, David Guangko and Miguel Ilas.
The field also braces for a grueling four-day battle under scorching heat although these youngsters have been used to playing such condition with the wind also expected to come into play in most holes throughout the tournament.
Also on tap are the Special Divisions for 18-years-old-and-above to be played over four rounds and 12-years-old-and-below set over 54 holes.
