A 21-year old man died after he attempted to fire shots at a police officer during a drug-bust operation past 1:00 a.m. at Basubas Compound, Barangay Tipolo, Mandaue City.
Ronard Miñoza, 21, a resident of the same place was rushed to Mandaue City Hospital after he sustained a gunshot wound but was later declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
A certain Negro Basubas, who was the subject of the drug operation, managed to escape during the operation.
Senior Insp. James Conaco, chief of Subangdaku police station, said that Basubas was a known drug personality in the area.
Conaco recounted that Miñoza pulled out his firearm when they were about to arrest the persons in the house of Basubas.
Police also arrested three persons for possession of illegal drugs and paraphernalia.
Arrested were Elisa Salino, 22; Rey Basubas, 40; and Sherwin Cardijon, 38.
Salino, the live-in partner of Miñoza, is 5 months pregnant at the time of the arrest.
