The news about the plan to build a fourth bridge connecting mainland Cebu to Mactan Island drew mixed reactions from netizens.
Henry Poblador said, “Good news. I agree that the two bridge(s) had already reach(ed) its peak. It is already too much stressed which exposes it to possible collapse hence the need for alternative bridge. The third and now the fourth is a highly welcome development.”
But netizen named Guest questioned the estimated cost of the bridge: “The fourth bridge is estimated to cost P6.9 billion. That is an expensive bridge.”
Dale L Roach commented, “The roads to the bridge are the real problem. Build a highway.”
A study team composed of local officials flew this week to Japan where they met with officials of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (Jica), which, based on its study, has recommended that the bridge be a single mode type, or a road bridge that will include a Mandaue coastal road project.
