MEGAWEAR, one of Cebu’s top singlet makers, will give back to the Cebuano running community by holding a 21-kilometer footrace on July 8.
The race starts and finishes at the SM City Cebu car park.
Megawear’s Excel Canque said the race is also a charitable activity for the benefit of Cancer Warriors Foundation, a patient-support organization for families of children with childhood cancer.
Parts of the proceeds of the race will be given to the Cancer Warriors Foundation, according to Canque in a press conference yesterday at the Caffe Hausbrandt along with veteran race director Joel Baring of Sports and Fitness Enthusiasts.
“This is our way to give thanks to the Cebuano running community for making us their partners,” said Canque. “This is a non-profit running event aimed to stage a quality run at the same time raise funds for the Cancer Warriors Foundation.”
Aside from the 21k race, there will be shorter 10k and 5k distances.
“The route will be very easy and friendly to the runners. there will be fewer turnarounds and turning points and the race course is flat so that runners can enjoy this race,” said Baring.
At press time, Canque and Baring said around 200 runners have already registered. They will limit the number of the 21k runners to 400 to ensure that they can come up with a quality footrace. But they are are looking to attract 750 runners for 10k and as many runners in the 5k distance.
Registration fee is P850 for the 21k, P600 for the 10k and P400 for the 5k. To register one can visit Planet Sports outlets in Cebu, RUNNR in Ayala Center Cebu and at Toby’s Sports SM City Cebu. Registration will be until June 30.
