The University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors’ center Kent Cabañog is facing a complaint of physical injury before the Cebu Provincial Prosecutor’s Office after allegedly punching Southwestern University (SWU)-Phinma Cobras big man Reeve Ugsang in a game last March at the Gabi Gym in Barangay Gabi in the Municipality of Cordova.
The complaint stems from the allegations of the 22-year-old Ugsang, who claimed in his affidavit that in the second period of their exhibition game against the Warriors back on March 18, 2018, he was punched in the mouth by Cabañog, which left him bloodied and subsequently unconscious.
Ugsang said that he was later brought to Sacred Heart Hospital, where he was confined for two days. The medical report that was later issued by the Southwestern University Medical Center as well as the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center revealed that Ugsang had suffered a contusion to his upper lip and a laceration to his inner lip as a result of the alleged assault.
The complaint will undergo a preliminary investigation before the Cebu Provincial Prosecutor’s Office, which has jurisdiction over incidents in Cordova town.
As part of the procedure, Cabañog will be given the chance to submit his counter-affidavit to refute the allegations.
If sufficient evidence is found against Cabañog, charges will be elevated to the trial court. Otherwise, the case will be dismissed.
The two players are set to cross paths once again on June 21 when the Warriors and the Cobras do battle in the Cesafi Partner’s Cup.
Cebu Daily News tried to get in touch with Cabañog as well as USC Athletic Director, Fr. Adriano Ocariza. However, neither answered phone calls and text messages.
