THE FORMATIVE Academic and Skills Development School located in Liloan, northern Cebu, believes that the best way to develop children is for their elders to do the skills and be hands-on in the learning process.
As the school is slowly inculcating a sports program as part of its education process, it has formed the Formative Sports Commission (FSC).
And, for its first project, the FSC is organizing the 1st Formative Cup 2018 Inter-Company & Inter-Subdivision Basketball Tournament which will open on June 24 and run until the month of August with the games played only every weekend.
The Inter-Subdivision will have two age groups—the Under 17 and 21 while the Inter-Company will be an open competition.
The games will be done at the grounds of Formative School to further drum up interest among the students to get involved in sports with their elders as influence.
The FSC decided not to make the event exclusive to answer the clamor in Liloan for a basketball tournament as well as to attract possible students to the school. At the moment the school has 503 enrollees.
Assistant Principal Maria Teresa Silverio explained that they decided to include sports in the school because their students have shown potential after finishing as runners-up in different basketball tournaments.
School owner Lemuel Lapingcao said that they are starting with basketball as it is popular in the country but later they will have football, futsal, volleyball and other sports.
Currently the U17 has seven teams, five teams for the U21 and 14 teams in the Inter-Company. Mars G. Alison
