Crucial bouts for Araneta, Rosales

TWO MORE boxers of the Omega Boxing Gym are expected to see action in the coming months in what should be crucial bouts for both.

Omega Pro Sports International (OPSI) Vice President Jerome Calatrava said Christian “The Bomb” Araneta and Jessie Cris “Jimdomar” Rosales have scheduled fights which are important for their respective careers.

The 23-year-old Araneta from Borbon, north Cebu will try to keep his record unblemished when he fights on August 18 at the Mandaue City Cultural and Sports Complex.

Araneta, unbeaten in 15 fights, was supposed to face Pedro “Rattle Snake” Taduran (12-1-0,9KOs) of Albay. But Taduran recently got injured, forcing OPSI to look for another opponent for Araneta.

If OPSI finds a new opponent for their prized ward who just recovered from a painful torn muscle injury in his right shoulder last year, it will put the World Boxing Council (WBC) Asia silver light flyweight title at stake.

Meanwhile, the 26-year old Rosales, a native of Danao City, north Cebu, will battle American Duarne Vue for the World Boxing Association (WBA) Intercontinental featherweight title on October 20 in Wisconsin, USA.

Rosales is the current WBA Oceania featherweight champion who holds a record of 22 wins (10 knockouts), one defeat and one draw. He recently pulled off a huge upset by knocking out Aussie rising star Ibrahim Balla last March in Australia to win the WBA title in the process.
The 32-year-old Vue is a native of Madison, Wisconsin, who won the WBA intercontinental featherweight title last April by beating Mexican Nehomar Cermeno via unanimous decision. He has a record of 14 wins (4 knockouts), one loss and two draws.

Omega Boxing Gym is also the stable of Jhack “El Capitan” Tepora, who is the interim World Boxing Association Featherweight champion.
