Citing fear for their safety, at least two members of the Lapu-Lapu City Traffic Management System (CTMS) have manifested on Monday their desire to already quit their jobs.
Mario Napule, CTMS head, said that since they are not allowed to carry firearms, all that he could do is to advise his men to be security conscious while manning traffic on their designated areas.
“Tinuod delikado ning trabaho-a pero kinahanglan man ta’g trabaho. Amping lang gyud kay dili man pwede naay armas (While it is true that we have a very risky job, this is what we do for a living. We just have to be very careful especially since we are not authorized to carry firearms),” Napule said.
At least two CTMS enforcers were killed while manning their designated posts in the last two years.
Former CTMS head Frank Brazil also survived a gun attack in August 2016.
The fatalities were identified as Raquel Bens and Edmond Boter.
Bensi was shot dead while manning traffic in Barangay Basak on January 27, 2017 while Boter was killed but two still unidentified suspects while manning traffic in Barangay Poblacion on July 17, 2018.
Suspects in the killing of the two traffic enforcers remain at large.
