CEBU City Hall plans to tap the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) for its plans to build a drug rehabilitation center in the city.
Garry Lao, chief of the Cebu City Office on Substance Abuse Prevention (Cosap), said they asked TIEZA to allocate five hectares of their lot at the borders of mountain Barangays Bonbon and Babag, Cebu City as site for the center.
TIEZA is the infrastructure arm of the Department of Tourism (DOT) tasked to supervise and promote tourism projects in the country.
“The function of TIEZA, which is for tourism, is indirectly related to the anti-drug advocacy of COSAP.
But both are anchored on the issue of peace and order in the community,” Lao said.
If plans push through, it will be the first drug rehabilitation center to be managed by the city government.
Lao said they learned about TIEZA’s property after COSAP met with their representatives.
“We will talk and discuss about the budget and design for the drug rehab center only if TIEZA will approve our request for a lot,” Lao said.
