THE Department of Environment and Natural Resources in Central Visayas has produced at least 10 million seedlings for the agency’s Enhanced National Greening Program (ENGP). The seedlings will be planted in the different planting sites in Cebu, Bohol, Negros Oriental and Siquijor in time for the rainy season this year.
The amount of seedlings produced as of the start of August has surpassed by 32 percent, the department’s target to produce eight million seedlings this year.
The seedlings consist of indigenous timber trees like narra, molave, and mamalis.
“With the ENGP, the DENR also intends to help in reducing poverty by providing alternative livelihood for upland and lowland households,” DENR-7 Director Gilbert Gonzales said.
