The municipal government of Oslob has accused the operator of the Seafari Beach Resort in Barangay Tan-awan of refusal to cooperate in their ongoing investigation of the Wednesday morning accident which injured four of their Chinese guests.

Mayor Jose Tumulak said that resort operators barred personnel from the Municipal Engineer’s Office from entering their premise on Thursday to investigate the collapse of their wooden baggage lift.

Tumulak warned resort operators of additional sanctions because of their refusal to cooperate with government investigators.

“The owner of the resort didn’t allow our personnel together with the police to get inside the establishment to conduct (an) investigation and inspection,” Tumulak said in an interview with radio station dyHP.

Engineering personnel, Tumulak said went to the Oslob police station to have the incident entered in the police blotter.

This reporter called the resort’s contact number posted on their website but failed to reach them.

Four Chinese tourists were injured in the Wednesday morning accident after they reportedly asked the resort staff to let them ride the wooden baggage lift in going down the cliff.

Unable to carry its load, the wooden lift collapsed.

Tumulak said they are digging into the records and permits that were earlier issued to the Seafari resort to check if there were deficiencies in their operation.

If they find any irregularities, Tumulak said he will not hesitate to impose sanctions or order resort management to already cease their operations.
