San Roque Football Cup gets underway

CLOSE to 150 teams will be vying for the title in their respective divisions as the 13th San Roque Football Cup kicks off today at the San Roque football field in Subangdaku, Mandaue City.

The 7-A-Side tournament will have a special guest in Japan national Under 15 and 16 team coach Reiji Hirata of the Japan Football Association. He will be watching the games today and will play in the 40-Above category tomorrow.

Games today will be in the Under 7 Mixed, U9 Mixed, U11 Mixed, U13 Boys, U15 boys, U15 girls and U19 girls.

While games tomorrow will be in the Under 17 Boys, Under 17 Girls, Under 19 Boys, Under 19 Girls, Men’s Open, Inter-Company/BPO, 35-39 and the 40-Above.

Oliver Colina, president of the San Roque Football Club (SRFC), which is organizing the event, is advising all teams to be mindful of their schedules and be at the playing venue early.

Teams must also submit their lineup before they play, otherwise they will be disqualified.

Games for both playing dates will start at 7 a.m. Only the first game will be given a grace period. The rest will be played as soon as one game is done.

The champion teams will receive a trophy and medals while the runner-up will get medals.

Sunsport will provide the official balls that will be used for the tournament. Others who have lend their support are Motor Ace, Leylam, Unilink and Cebu MMF Glass and Aluminum Supply.

This year’s tournament is to help raise funds for the rehabilitation of one of the oldest football fields in Cebu, that is the San Roque football field, as well as to raise funds for the continued training of the San Roque kids.
