DO you already have your faves among this year’s Binibining Cebu candidates?

Starting today, CDN will feature the 54 lovely ladies competing for the five crowns: Binibining Cebu, Binibining Cebu Charity, Binibining Cebu Tourism, Binibining Cebu Heritage and Binibining Cebu Ecology.

Kim Covert
Age: 23
Town: Alegria
Work: Clothing stylist
Title: Miss Earth-Water 2014

KIM Covert wants to be the voice for all mothers who want to make a difference in the world.

“The opportunity presented itself to me at the perfect time. I’ve been encouraged by my family and friends. Mentally and emotionally I have been

ready. I am a strong believer in timing and the law of attraction,” she told Cebu Daily News.

Binibining Cebu is Covert’s comeback to the pageant scene after she gave birth to her son, Sol Genesis, now six months old.

Covert left the country in 2016 and worked as an international writer for a luxury travel magazine based in Dubai.

She traveled to Maldives, Dubai, Europe, and settled in California. She directed fashion shows and opened a modeling training center.

“As soon as I got the confirmation I changed my eating habits and have been working out to prepare physically,” she said.

She considers the pageant as a way to promote Alegria, a humble town located in the southwest portion of Cebu province.

“I could talk for hours about the wonders it holds like the majestic Cambais Falls, the sunset overlooking the Tañon Strait, the canyoneering adventures, just to name a few,” she said.

Kinji Salinas
Age: 21
Town: Argao
Work: Customer service agent for Philippine Airlines
Titles: Sibonga Festival Queen 2012, Dalagang Argaonon 4th runner-up, Miss CNU World Tourism 2016 1st runner-up, Mayors Cup Daanbantayan 2018 4th runner-up

KINJI Salinas decided to join Binibing Cebu 2018 to advance her advocacy in protecting environment, heritage, and culture.

“I did it because I felt it as a duty and responsibility to raise my advocacy and also got driven by my friends and handler to participate,” she said.

Salinas is representing Argao, which is known for Torta de Argao, a native cupcake made of coconut wine, sugar, milk, egg yolk, flour, lard, and margarine. The town is also famous for its “tablea” or a cocoa tablet.

Its tourist attractions include like Mount Lantoy, Bugasok Falls, and Balay sa Agta Cave.

Another pride of Argao is the industry of hablon, which is produced in a traditional weaving process using local fibers like piña, abaca, and cotton.
