Press Freedom Run, Metafit Throwback Games set tomorrow

September 20,2018 - 10:11 PM

CEBU media practitioners will cap their weeklong celebration of the 26th Cebu Press Freedom with two sporting activities — the CPF Run and the Metafit Throwback Games, which will be held on Saturday morning at the Cebu Business Park.

Both activities are presented by Cebu Holdings Inc. (CHI) in cooperation with the Ayala Center Cebu and the Cebu Business Park. The convenor for this year’s Press Freedom Week themed “Unity Amid Adversity” is Cebu Daily News.

The CPF Run, which is open to all media practitioners and has no registration fee, will have 3-kilometer and 5-kilometer distances. There will be a surprise twist to add more fun to the foot race.

The race starts and ends at the area in front of the CHI building along Cardinal Rosales Avenue at the Cebu Business Park.

Interested media practitioners are advised to go early as registration will only be done at the site of the race. The on-site registration will be from 5 a.m. to 5:45 a.m. at the front of the City Sports Club Cebu. The race is set to start at exactly 6 a.m. Both 3K and 5K participants will be released together.

Registration will be on a first-come, first-served basis or until the supply of T-shirts, which will be given as soon as a participant registers. The T-shirt will serve as the race singlet and must be worn during the race.

For the 3K, from the starting area along Cardinal Rosales Ave., runners must turn left to Negros Road, left again to Bantayan Road, then left to Sumilon Road before going right to Cardinal Rosales Ave., Samar Loop, along the Lexmark Bldg., Camotes Road, Leyte Loop then Samar Loop then left at the corner of Cardinal Rosales Ave. towards the finish line in front of the CHI building.

The 5K participants, on the other hand, will follow the same route except that when they turn left at the corner of Cardinal Rosales Ave., they will not head to the finish line. This, instead, will serve as their first turning point. From Cardinal Rosales Ave., runners will continue left to Samar Loop, to Panay Road, Mindanao Road before turning right to Siquijor Road, Mindanao Ave., on to the corner of the Archbishop Reyes flyover, which is the second turning point, then back to Mindanao Ave., right to Cardinal Rosales Ave. and then head to the finish line in front of the CHI building.

Once again tapped as race director is Wilfredo “Willie” Estepa while members of the Ungo Runners will also act as marshals of the race. Also lending support to the CPF Run is the Coco Running of Joel Juarez who will be handling the timing/clocking of the race.

The Saturday affair will be hosted once again by Cebu City Councilor Joel Garganera.

Top 3 male and female finishers of both distance categories will get cash prizes. A special surprise award will also be given away.
