Grieving grandpa, a landslide evacuee, dies, 8 days after tragic Naga incident

A 76-year-old grandfather, who lost at least 15 relatives from the landslide that hit Sitio Sindulan in Barangay Tinaan in Naga City, died on Friday dawn (Sept. 28) at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC), eight days after the tragic landslide incident.

The grieving Felipe Dejilles, a Sitio Sindulan resident and a landslide evacuee staying at the Enan Chiong Activity Center (ECAC), had already been brought to the VSMMC twice this week after he experienced difficulty in breathing.

On Friday, Dejilles passed away with the doctor at the VSMMC telling the family that Dejilles apparently died of a burst artery and a hole in the lung.

John Marvi Bacus, Dejilles grandson, said his grandfather had refused to eat properly as he took the loss of their relatives to the Sept. 20 landslide hard.

Dejilles’ relatives included the Campanilla family, who lost 15 family members in the landslide with another one still missing.

Dejilles’ remains were brought to the tennis court in East Poblacion in Naga City where 13 other casualties were placed and where their wakes were being held.
