A barangay councilwoman was shot dead by two unknown assailants at the Sangi Public Market in Barangay Madridejos, Alegria town in southern Cebu.
Fifty-two-year-old Juanita Lobrino, who served as councilwoman of Barangay Guadalupe of the same town, was buying fish when an unidentified man wearing a helmet approached and shot her four times on the head and the body before speeding off with his companion on a motorcycle, according to PO1 Reymond Obiasada, the desk officer of the Alegria police.
Witnesses accounts said the incident took place at around 6:55 p.m. today and a concerned citizen called the police station immediately after the incident, added Obiasada, quoting information from PO2 Jupiter Elarcosa, the case investigator.
Alegria police arrived at the public market at around 7:05 p.m. where Lobrino was found sprawled near the vendors’ booths.
Lobrino was immediately rushed to the Reinhard Wirtgen Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police were still looking into the motive of the killing.
