SACRED Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu Magis Eagles are hoping to secure a spot into the top 4 when they go up against University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Baby Panthers in the first match of today’s resumption of the 2018 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (Cesafi) secondary football competition at the Cebu City Sports Center.
The Magis Eagles are currently leading the league with nine points after having won all three of their elimination matches so far. They are three points clear of their closest pursuer, the University of San Carlos-Basic Education (USC-BED) Baby Warriors, who are at second with six points off a 2-1-0 win-loss-draw record.
Despite not having conceded a match so far in the tournament, Magis Eagles head coach Oliver Colina is still not satisfied with the team’s performance.
“As I have observed, the team’s game is peaking but they still can do more than what they have done so far in our past three games,” said Colina. “I hope they can play their game, the way they’ve been doing during our friendlies.”
According to Colina, the team still commit many basic mistakes which can create a big hole in their plays.
“We have to eliminate those so we can finally complete our plays,” he said.
The Ateneo head coach is also hoping that four of his players who are injured could fully recover and return to their games. He had not conducted trainings last Sunday to Tuesday to give the team some rest.
Should they win, they will be assured of a spot in the top 4 and the only thing that would remain to be determined is their rank.
For Colina, what’s important is that they enter the top 4.
USPF is hoping to post its first win in the season as it totes a 0-1-2 record equivalent to two points.
Also hoping to barge into the win column are Sisters of Mary School (SMS) Boystown Aloysians and defending champions Don Bosco Technical College (DBTC) Greywolves, who will be taking on separate foes today.
The sixth ranked SMS Aloysians will face the third ranked University of San Jose-Recoletos Baby Jaguars in the second game while the fifth ranked DBTC will go up against the second ranked USC.
