Naga City inmates turned over to Cebu City Jail

ABOUT 421 inmates of Naga City Jail were turned over to the Cebu City Jail yesterday dawn, Cebu City Councilor Dave Tumulak said.

In a text message sent to reporters, Tumulak, also concurrent deputy mayor on police matters, said there were no untoward incidents that occurred during the turnover at 5 a.m.

Personnel of the regional Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP-7) transported the 421 inmates of Naga City Jail to the Cebu City Jail, where they were detained in a new building near the jail’s female dormitory in the hinterland barangay of Kalunasan.

“The building is separate from the one where nearly 300 female inmates of the city jail are being housed,” Tumulak said.

The Naga City Jail guards will be stationed there to monitor them, he said.

Law enforcers of the BJMP’s Special Tactics and Response (Star) team, Highway Patrol Group (HPG), and a Special Weapons and Tactics (Swat) team secured the convoy of prisoners.

The Naga City Jail inmates will stay for three months at the Cebu City Jail or until the BJMP-7 finds a safer place for them to be detained.

Earlier, the regional Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB-7) said the Naga City Jail is located in a landslide prone area in Barangay Naala.
