THE UNIVERSITY of the Visayas (UV) will celebrate its centennial year in 2019 starting with a running event dubbed “UV Centennial Run” starting at the UV main campus on January 12, 2019.

The running event kick starts UV’S centennial celebration, which featured a year-round list of activities that culminates with a grand celebration in December 2019.

The running event will feature 3-kilometer, 5k, and 10k distances.

The theme of the centennial celebration is “UV: A Centennial of Love and Service to Humanity.”

UV’s centennial celebration was officially launched at its new building inside the UV main campus on Wednesday. It was attended by its President Atty. Eduardo R. Gullas, along with executive vice president Dr. Jose R. Gullas, UV College of Law dean Atty. Darling Chyrmyth Wagas, corporate secretary Atty. Joseph Baduel, athletic director Dr. Cresencio Mejarito, and race director Joel Baring.

“We decided to have a running event because we want our centennial celebration to be more energetic and fun-filled,” said Mejarito.

UV is considered as the first university to be established in Cebu in 1919. It was founded by Don Vicente Gullas, the grand old man of the prominent Gullas clan. His sons, Eduardo Gullas and Dr. Jose Gullas are now President and Executive Vice President of UV, respectively.

Both want to continue their father’s legacy of providing affordable education to Cebuanos and always uphold their rallying cry “Love, Leadership, and Service to Humanity.”

Aside from the running event, there will be a series of activities such as medical missions, job fairs and more until the grand alumni and culmination program of the centennial celebration in December 2019.
