Pacquiao takes break from Tuesday training

MANILA – Manny Pacquiao skipped training on Tuesday to rest after a long day in Senate, as per his longtime friend and trainer Buboy Fernandez.

Pacquiao, the reigning WBA welterweight titleholder, was supposed to have another sparring session with fast-rising star George Kambosos Jr. at Elorde Boxing Gym at Mall of Asia in Pasay City after his Senate work in the afternoon.

Fernandez also said Pacquiao plans to leave for General Santos City on Thursday to continue his training camp.

The eight-division champion defends his WBA belt for the first time against American Adrien Broner on January 19 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Pacquiao, who turns 40 on Monday, hasn’t fought in the US since his one-sided victory over Jessie Vargas back in November 2016.

Pacquiao (60-7-2, 39 KOs), who stopped Argentine strongman Lucas Matthysse in the seventh round five months ago in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, began his buildup against the much younger Broner (33-3-1, 24 KOs) two weeks ago.
