INTERNATIONAL Master (IM) John Daniel Bryant of the United States ruled the Mayor Ramon “Nito” Durano III Rapid Chess Tournament last Sunday at the DT Durano Integrated Social Hall in Danao City, northern Cebu.
IM Bryant, who came all the way from Southern California, USA, had a sterling performance in the tournament, scoring a perfect 9.0 points after nine rounds of the Swiss system format competition.
IM Bryant’s stint in the FIDE-rated tournament was made possible by Cebuano Grand Master (GM) Enrico Sevillano.
Merben Roque finished second with 7.5 points while Rommel Ganzon finished third with 7.0 points.
In the Danawaon category, Junry Romero finished on top with 6.5 points followed by Joel Maquiling and Gian Arnulfo, respectively.
Winner in the kiddies category was Alphecca Gonzales, who scored 6.0 points. Her runners up were Hoban Methuselah and Christian Andrei Asne, respectively.
