LTO-7, HPG to start apprehending vehicles without license plates

 

CEBU CITY, Philippines — With license plates now made available to vehicle owners,   the Land Transportation Office  in Central Visayas (LTO-7) will begin apprehending vehicles registered in Cebu from June 2016 to July 2018 that still have no license plates.

LTO-7 regional director Victor Caindec called on owners of vehicles registered during these dates to claim their license plates through the car dealers from whom they bought their unit.

Otherwise, LTO-7 personnel  and the Highway Patrol Group (HPG) of the Philippine National Police  will start apprehending those vehicles without license plates.

Caindec expressed disappointment over the low number of owners who turned out for the release of license plates for vehicles that were registered between June 2017 and July 2018.

The license plates of these vehicles are included the second batch of license plates now available in the region.

According to Caindec, LTO-7 has arranged for the release of the plates at the SM Seaside City so it would be more convenient for the vehicle owners.

“All they have to do is drive there and pick it up,” he said. “It will take just a few minutes to claim the license plate.”

However, less than 2,000 license plates have been claimed between February 9 and February 11 although they targeted the release of 5,000 plates daily.

He also disclosed that out of the first batch of 22,000 license plates, 8,000 have yet to be claimed.

Caindec said the car dealers have been informing their clients about the availability of the license plates. Some of them, however, only promised to claim it but has failed to do so, he added.

He then urged owners of vehicles registered from June 2016 to July 2018 who have yet to claim their license plates to get in touch with the dealer from whom they bought their unit.
