Cebu City relief team to visit towns, Capitol sends gensets

CEBU City Mayor Michael Rama will donate his P53,000 salary for this month to typhoon victims in northern Cebu and asked City Hall officials to donate some of their own.

“It is important that we should be mindful with what’s going on, that they really need help,” Rama said.

The Cebu City government finalized plans for their medical missions and relief operations in Medellin town and in Ormoc City.

Dubbed as “Cebu City Civic Action Group (CCCAG) at Medellin and Ormoc,” the Cebu City Hall team will visit the typhoon-hit areas this Saturday.

Market Administrator Raquel Arce and City Administrator Jose Marie Poblete will head the team for Cebu’s northern towns while Vice Mayor Edgar Labella will head the team for Ormoc City.

Arce said their team will leave at 6 a.m. on Saturday and will stay for one week in Medellin, San Remegio and Daanbantayan towns.

Arce’s group has relief, medical and clearing teams while Labella’s group headed for Ormoc City only has relief and medical teams.

Labella said a barge from the Cebu Contractors Association will be used to accommodate vehicles, medical equipment, generator sets and relief and medical teams that will be going to Ormoc City.

At the Cebu provincial government, water supply could be restored in Cebu’s northern towns including the islands of Camotes and Bantayan after the Capitol purchased power generator sets.

Provincial Legal Officer Orvi Ortega said 12 generator sets were sent yesterday to Bogo City, Daanbantayan, San Remigio, Tabogon and Medellin to energize the water systems there. Other recipients are the towns of Bantayan, Santa Fe, Madridejos in Bantayan Island and Pilar, Tudela, Poro and San Francisco in the island of Camotes.

The province will also purchase three additional generator sets for district hospitals in Bantayan, Daanbantayan and Bogo City.
