THE LAHUG Football Club landed the first finals spot in the Under-9 age group category after escaping with a thrilling 1-0 victory over the Don Bosco Technological Center (DBTC) Team B yesterday at the resumption of the 16th Aboitiz Football Cup at the Aboitiz Sports Field.
Don Bosco, though, made sure that at least one of its teams will figure in the championship round as DBTC Team D outlasted sister team, DBTC Team A, 4-3, to forge a titular duel against Lahug FC in the age group division.
The University of San Carlos (USC)-BED and Ateneo de Cebu-Sacred Heart School (SHS-AdC), on the other hand, forged a championship battle in the Under-11 division after disposing separate foes in contrasting manners.
USC-BED barged into the finals of the Under-11 division after blanking the Lahug FC Team A, 2-0, while SHS-AdC secured its finals seat with a 4-2 semis win versus the DBTC Team 1.
The championship matches will be played next weekend.
In the other age group divisions, the SHS-AdC booters scored a 6-5 quarterfinals win over Subangdako FC to enter the semis of the Under-15 boys division alongside Abellana National School-Pomeroy, which booted out the Mactan Camellanz, 3-0. Springdale FC edged out DBTC Team 1, 6-4, while DBTC Team 2 defeated CIE, 7-1.
In the Under-13 Group C match, the Mactan Camellanz toppled the Guardian Striker, 4-0, while the USC-BED blasted the CIE squad in their Group A match-up.
SHS-AdC also logged a victory in the Under-18 boys Group B matches as they escaped past Mactan Camellanz, 2-1, while ANS-Pomeroy annihilated the Sais FC, 8-0.
Leylam likewise joined the winners’ wagon in the Under-18 boys wars after toppling Canduman, 5-1, in their Group C match-up, while the San Roque Football Club tortured Sais FC, 6-0, in the Under-18 girls.
Tabor Hills, for its part, tallied a 3-0 win over the Subangdako FC in the Under-13 Group D, while Dynamo FC defeated DBTC Team 2, 3-1, in the Group B match. /Correspondent JADE S. VIOLETA
