CEBU CITY, Philippines — Cebuana singer Jacky Chang is challenging herself this year to release her self-composed songs.

Chang told Cebu Daily News Digital that she had stopped writing after high school because she had lost the drive to do it.

“I am challenging myself this year to overcome my fear of letting people hear my soul,” she said.

She said that most of her songs she had written focused on personal experiences, people’s lives, and random ideas.

“Hopefully magka courage nako para mo pagawas ug song na ako ang nagsuwat,” she added.

(“Hopefully, I will have the courage to release the songs that I have written,” she said.)

She was also named as the Best Interpreter when she gave life to Jade Castro’s, “Ayaw Ako’g Byai”  during the 34th Cebu Popular Music Festival in 2014.

Chang popularized Bisaya songs like, “Pero Atik Ra,” “Sinsilyo,” and “Hahahahasula.”

The Cebuana singer also looks forward to more collaborations this year.

“Of course another single na maka ingon siguro sila na different side of me and it is really good. Dili sa bias na pagka sulti, but nindot gyud sya. Not sure though if pwede nako mag drop og names sa nagpaluyo aning kantaha. Basta! Atangi lang, hapit na,” she said.

(“Of course, another single that people can say is a different side of me and it is really good. I’m not saying this because I am biased, but it really is a good song. But I am not sure though if I can reveal the names of the people behind the song. Just wait for it, it’s nearly out,” she said.)

Is Chang ready to move to Manila?

“I am still looking for the perfect timing. I think it really is all about timing,” she said.

Chang appeared in ABS-CBN series, “Idol” in 2010 headlined by Sarah Geronimo, Sam Milby, and Coco Martin.

“Timing is everything when it comes to this para nako. But I am very open to the idea of it. I just do not want to go there na half baked ra. If I go there I want to be equipped jud sa tanan na kinahanglanon,” Chang said.

(“For me, timing is everything when it comes to this. But I am open to the idea about it. I just do not want to there half-baked. If I go there, I want to be equipped with all that will be needed,” Chang said.)

Will that happen this year?

“We will see,” she added./dbs
